Volunteers
A number of volunteer opportunities are available for the Times Colonist Victoria Open. Volunteers are expected to work a minimum of 12 hours throughout the week in order to be eligible for volunteer benefits.
Volunteers will receive a golf shirt and hat that must be worn while working. In addition, each volunteer will receive a complimentary meal for each four-hour shift worked. There will be a Volunteer registration session on the Sunday prior to the Tournament to pick up your shirt, hat and to meet your coordinator. Sunday evening right after the Tournament there will be a Volunteer Appreciation Party.
A variety of opportunities are available, with varying time commitments throughout the week. If you are interested in being a Volunteer, please fill in a form. All Volunteers will be contacted once an application has been received.

Volunteer Positions available:
Transportation
Transportation is responsible for the following:
- Recruiting drivers
- Determining pick-up and drop-off locations
- Setting driver schedules
Walking Scorers

The ideal walking scorer has good golf knowledge, can walk 18 holes and is comfortable with using basic technology. Each Walking scorer is given a scoring device, radio and headset and will use the scoring device to record each stroke on all 18 holes; including where the shot was taken from (i.e., tee, fairway, rough, bunker, green, etc.). The Walking Scorer does this for each player in their group simultaneously.

The TOUR will provide the Walking Scorer Chair with a Scoring Training Video so that walking scorers can be prepared for training.

REMINDER: Training is mandatory for walking scorer volunteers.
Standard Bearers

The ideal standard bearer volunteer should have some basic golf knowledge, can walk 18 holes comfortably while carrying an aluminum sign. Although the standards themselves are aluminum and not overly heavy, it is recommended that stronger individuals be recruited for standard bearing.

These individuals should arrive at the course a minimum of 30 minutes prior to their assigned group to receive their standard and training on proper operation.
Player Services
The Player Services is located in a high traffic player area such as the entrance to Player Dining, Player Lounge or Locker Room. Committee members are responsible for supporting players throughout the week in responding to questions pertaining to the Tournament and local community. The volunteers will support the TOUR with Player Registration on Monday and Tuesday. On Wednesday, the Player Services Desk will carry out the remaining functions of the Committee. This position is indoors and does not require heavy lifting or lots of walking. Player Services is a local information centre so you should have some good knowledge of the city and all it has to offer.
- Monday & Tuesday: 8:00 am – 4:00 pm
- Wednesday: 9:00 am – 5:00 pm
- Thursday & Friday: 6:30 am – 4:30 pm
- Saturday: 7:00 am – 5:00 pm
- Sunday: 7:00 am – 4:00 pm
Marshals

Marshals are important for crowd control and help ensure proper playing conditions for the players.

Marshals are needed on tees and around greens as these are the most highly trafficked areas. They may also be needed around the clubhouse or areas where spectator paths cross golf holes.
Spotters

Spotters play a large role in maintaining proper pace of play and are therefore very important.

The Host Organization should provide flags to indicate where the player’s ball has ended up in the case that the rough is too long to easily locate a golf ball.

They will also be trained in signaling back to the tee to indicate whether the players ball is in play or not.
Caddies

Caddies should be able to walk 18 holes over multiple days, carry roughly 50 pounds and have good golf knowledge. It is rare that a player travels with a Tour staff bag, many players will have a double strapped carrying bag. It is important for caddies to understand that the players are competing for their future dream of playing on the PGA TOUR and that it is their job. Unless asked by players, caddies should not provide ~my advice and should be focused on carrying the bag, raking bunkers, washing clubs/balls, pulling flags, etc.

Preferably, caddies should be available Thursday through Sunday. Caddies who are available during the entire week will be assigned to players first.

Hospitality
The hospitality committee consists of a small team of volunteers. This committee will be communicating and interacting with sponsors, players and VIP’s on a regular basis. Some roles may include;
- Assisting with tournament clinics including the registering of amateur participants.
- Managing the entrances to all VIP hospitality areas, ensuring that only properly accredited persons are allowed entry.
- Assisting with the operation of hospitality areas including working with the host facilities to ensure food and drink are available.
- Possibly running food orders from the kitchen to our VIP tents.
- Communicating on behalf of the event with Sponsors and VIP’s.
- We are planning to have a number of events throughout the week with most events needing hospitality support from approx 11:00 am – 7:30 pm.
